I'm doing this from memory so the numbers may vary somewhat when I do a proper entry for this diner. Sugar's is run out of a mobile home on the side of just north of Embudo Station. There's no dining room, but they put out plastic chairs and tables if you want a sit down meal. The "Sugar Burger" is a monster, with just about everything you could imagine thrown on to it. Bonus points for sautéed mushrooms and bacon, but even without those, this GCCB would score high.
*** The property where Sugar's is located is for sale. Who knows what may happen if this lot gets sold. Time may be short.

The home of the famous Lil' Red Burger, now operating out of an old house near Oldtown. Bonuses for a choice of three hand formed patty sizes, hotter than medium green chile (but still chopped), crispy fries (but still frozen from a bag), and a toasted bun (but still the plain Rainbow brand). The place does get busy during the lunch hour, bring cash only, and don't bother with the parking lot, there's plenty of street parking.

Bonuses for the Flying Star's attempts at an environmentally friendly restaurant, "organic" beef, hipster attitude. But far too many minuses: hardly any green chile on the green chile cheeseburger, bland pre-formed hamburger patty, expensive prices (especially for a restaurant with counter ordering and no real wait staff). I'll try again in a couple months.

Yes, you can get green chile on your burgers ANYWHERE in New Mexico. A good cheap, really really fast food GCCB. You almost don't have to stop your car at Wendy's drive thrus. Bonuses for the "never frozen" beef, and good green chile. Minuses for the chain restaurant inconsistency and sodium levels.

I am surprised at this score, because everything else served at Kelly's is generally crap. I just had never had their green chile cheeseburger until now. The large, thick patty (maybe even a steak burger what do I know) and the green chile are the deal makers here. The patty was one of the best I've tasted, and the chopped green chile was hot, plump and still full of flavor though out of season. Kelly's also gets plusses for the open air patio right on Route 66, the cheap IPA, the sweet potato fries, and the cute waitresses (or waiters if you prefer). Most everything else about the burger itself was pretty generic (all the fixings on the side but NO onions?). Always packed, and go ahead and bring your dog.

A choice of 6oz or 8oz patty, which has been crushed into lump of coal. But bonus points for being thick and cooked to order. The green chile is chopped, most likely from the frozen Bueno tubs. The sesame bun is thick and fluffy, and lightly toasted. The highlight here are the french fries, thin and crispy and hot. Shown here are the "Rt 66 fries", which are coated in queso cheese and the same green chile chop. A completely average green chile cheeseburger, that totals out to a 5 Rating overall. A good starting reference for future ratings.
